So, in terms of making life easier by gathering data, this is not a new or growing concept. We as a species have always been growing and adapting by gathering data, Encyclopedias are a literal example of this. However up until recently it is usually pretty clear cut how this data is gathered. you learn how to play sports better by practice and studying the pros. You can be seen doing this, either by the players themselves or people around you at the event. The key difference between this and modern data farming is that you don’t know who is gathering your data, what data they are gathering, and when their data type changes. A big point here is the intimacy of the data being collected, in the video discussing smart devices Hill and Mattu (2018) discuss that even sex toys can now share your data. One of the most private parts of our lives now can be tracked and used a a means of influencing us. Think about that, if that data isn’t off limits what is? Far as I can tell nothing is. but at the same time I am a cynic so do with that what you will.
